Gene Sequencing

Why Are We Different?

The Difference In DNA

All of us are unique and if both of us could have our DNA sequenced we would learn that there are several million differences between us, and although all humans are approximately 99.9% the same, these differences are enough to make it obvious that we are not the same person.

This occurs over and over because of mutations in the information passed on from your parents.  It is estimated that approximately 100 mutations occurred when you or I were conceived.  This has happened down through the generations that have come before us.  It is virtually impossible for us to have the same DNA sequences.

.1% does not seem like a lot of difference but it is enough to give us different fingerprints, appearance, voice, and many other characteristics that can be used to identify us, one from another.  It is also enough to pass on unwanted characteristics in the form of genetically caused diseases and some deformities.
